THE Wine-bibber (A Drinker of Fine Wine)

Noah's Ark bass relief Sainte ChapelleWe all have been waiting with great anticipation for Monday’s HA (Human’s Anonymous meeting).  The ark will be filled to capacity.  Standing room only.    We call the meeting place, “The Ark” because it is the original name of the building.  It formerly housed a successful night club that was always filled with “party” animals.   The Name plate is still hanging outside the entrance.  It makes all of the critters who attend, smile as they walk by and see the plaque.  Even the building has as uncanny resemblance to that Great Ship that protected God’s menagerie from the flood.

This will be an “open” meeting today.  In addition to the Dumbo sheep, the jack-asses, the sheep dogs, the eagles, white-tailed hawks, the glow-worms, the sailor sheep and firemen and all of the newbie sheep, the meeting is opened up today, for visitors who are family and friends of the regulars.  The visitors don’t usually sense their own need for meetings like this one, but they are curious because they have seen some Remarkable changes in their family members who had demonstrated such weakness and constant failure in the past.   All of their loved ones use to be wine-bibbers.  They still are .  .  .but the Wine they drink now comes from a Special Vineyard.

“In the Day of God’s Power, sing unto the flock who are a Vineyard of red wine.  I the Lord Watch over it and Keep it.  I  1375728728_b6076ad25b_mWill Water it every moment.  I Guard them day and night so that no one, and nothing can harm them.  I Will Cause them to take root and bud. . .and blossom and fill the world with Fruit.   .   .Thou has put Gladness into their hearts more than the times  when they drank the wine from another vineyard.   You Showed them hard things that they used to deny about their life and You made them drink the wine of astonishment over what they saw about themselves.  Isaiah 27:2,5;   Psalm 60:3 “

At every open meeting we have a guest speaker and the reason why we were so excited about this meeting is because of the presence of  Lazzy, who  is Alive and Well. Most of you know about the fire in the barn at the farm and the miracle we all witnessed.  Lazzy is going to share his story with us.  His big sister Lily is going to help him. (I am smiling with tears in my eyes as I write this).  Lily is holding his hand as they make their way up to the front.  She is a Flower from Heaven and her Scent captivates angels.

He progressed to formula than on to beer, hard liquors and finally found contentment with wine. He became a connoisseur of a variety of wines from the best vineyards in the world. He loved his wines, so much so, that he was always intoxicated.  (Many of those listening to Lily are nodding their heads in agreement as they relate to the story.  .  .and Lily continued speaking).

“Webster’s dictionary in part, defines wine as:  “something resembling wine especially in an ability to invigorate, intoxicate or spread a feeling of well-being;  a social gathering;  to treat with wine (to wine and dine);  to provide with wine”.

“The Son of Man, Jesus, came drinking and they said about Him, ‘Behold a man gluttonous and a wine-bibber, a friend of thieves and sinners.  But His children are acquitted from guilt and found innocent of wrong-doing.”  Matthew 11:19

Laz has stepped forward and smiles as he looks around the room at his friends and after a moment or two, he begins to speak.  “When I heard the Master call out my name when I seemed dead and buried under the rubble of the collapsed barn, He also said some other things to me.

Come to the Water.  He that has no money, Come and Drink.  Yes, Come and Buy My Wine without money and without cost.” Psalms;  Isaiah 55

“When He speaks to your heart,” Lazzy said, “He Makes you an offer that you cannot refuse.  His Words Invigorate and Quicken the soul with the very Life of God,  and brings with it an Eternal Sense of Well-being.  .  .a Peace that passes all understanding.  And the heart says within you.  .  .It is Well, it is Well with my Soul.”
